I'm looking at a few trucks this winter to purchase from a dealer. In regards to upfitter switches, one truck that I'm looking at does not have them. I've seen in the tech folder that you can install them fairly easily for relatively cheap. My question however, is if you do not get them from the factory, are the firewall pass through wires still installed on the truck? Meaning as long as I install the underdash relays, wiring harness and switches, I'll be all set up and the firewall pass through wires will be under the dash when its time to add exterior lights?
As a follow on question, since there are blunt wires under dash as well as blunt wires under the hood passed through the firewall, are the wires attached in parallel, meaning if you install an in cab accessory and exterior light for example to the same switch (AUX 1 for ex), both will turn on when you activated the AUX 1 switch?
My understanding is that the blunt wires through the dash grommet are not connected to the wires on the harness under the dash, you must connect them if desired. Because the ones in the engine compartment are so short and hard to reach, I just ran my own from wiring harness through firewall grommet into engine compartment and down under body along frame to pickup box in my case.
Haggle with the dealer for them, and for them to do the install. I did. They'll cough it up if it's the only thing holding the deal up. It took them over 3 hours to do the install. Not sure if that's normal, but I wouldn't want to spend that much time installing an accessory if I could get them to do it. Especially if I'm dropping money for a brand new rig.
Yes very easy I did this last week, if you do it yourself and buy the kit they sell on Ebay make sure you get 2 good mounting screws for the relay panel.
