Underhood Wiring Question

Underhood Wiring Question
I am looking at a 2 owner, 49,000 mile 04 Excursion with the 6.0. I noticed under the hood, on the driver's side, right up in the corner next to the cowl there appeared to be 3-4-5 wires that appeared to have been cut with snips. The wires appear to be factory, were loose, and all led into the factory harness nearby. The seller believed the original owner had a "chip" installed there and had just cut it loose. I was guessing that they all led to some kind of factory connector, but I'm a 7.3 guy and know next to nothing about a 6.0.
Any ideas on what was cut and why?
BTW- There are no check engine lights, and the seller said he bought it in 09 with 33k miles and has not had any issues.

They are passthrough wires. They are used for installing aftermarket stuff without feeding into the cab. They ussually have black melt on caps on each end. There are also thinner gauge bundles up upfitter switch wires inside if you have the 4 switches? The swithes are pre powered. This has nothing to do with chipping it.
