rebuilding an 88 5.0 ho from a stang. Haynes torque specs 18-23 ft-lbs. I'm using felpro gaskets. I had to go around the sequence 4 times before all the bolts seated. The next morning I came back and found 3 of the bolts still needed to be re-torqued. Web search shows this is normal. My concern is that the instructions that came with the felpro gaskets states to re-torque after the engine warms up. This will require me to unbolt the upper intake to reach all the bolts again which is doable but kinda PIA. I wanna skip the second part but wanted to know if you guys had any problems doing it this way. thanks
I torque em to 25 ft/lbs and repeat till the gaskets fully compress. Should be no need to retorque after doing this, no matter how many heat cycles. I did the last on my 96 E150's 351W last year, ain't touched em since, not even after trips to Kalifornia, Texas, Colorado and Arkansas, about 13,000 miles worth.
Maybe it's just something strange with the Felpro gaskets, but when you think about it, can you imagine the factory assembling the engine, warming it up, taking the lower intake back off, retorquing, and replacing the lower intake? And yet the factory build runs 100,000 miles with no problem.
Did you lay a bead of silicone on the 4 corners where the intake gasket hooks to the head gasket? Also, I'm curious to know if your fel-pro kit came with neoprene or cork "s" gaskets?
