dead cluster lights/gauges
i found water in my glove box and found threads dealing with the windshield or moonroof leaking and running water down the pillers to behind the dash.
my radio was freaking out before i found the water, so i figured it was related.
now my instrument gauges/lights have stopped working. everything else works fine, it starts, radio works, lights work, interior lights, windows all work. the only other thing that seems to be amiss is the auto door lock that engages when you drive a bit.
i checked fuses 33, 35, 41, 45 as they were reported to be related to the cluster. the service guy at the ford truck dealer said a common problem was the wire running from the tow button at the end of the shifter chaffed and eventually would short causing fuses to blow.
i pulled off the cowlings etc and traced the wire but mine was not worn anywhere i could see.
i have no idea where else to look. i wonder if there are fuses elsewhere under the hood that i should check as well?
any advise would be appreciated. thanks if you at least read this.
next morning ignition clicked like battery was dead/dieing. put it on charger for a few hours and plugged in the block warmer. it started right up. no gauges or idiot lights.
decided to go ahead and try to drive it to the ford truck service center. (20 miles)
got a couple of miles down the road and all went dead. towed it in the rest of the way.
reported all symptoms, water in box etc.
day and a half later and they can't find any corrosion in the fuse box, or signs of water being back there.
said it started right up for them but was not running well.
waiting for further news as they try to find the problem
will post when i hear more.
hope this can help someone else.
