I really hope not lol about 300 for the lockouts and conversion kit, not including wheel seals, hopefully I didnt ruin any bearings having to drive it the 30 miles back to the house after I started hearing the noise... or the shaft.... that really wont be good

I had a 95 f150 and they would just lock in going down the road unexpectedly....like I hit something real hard and it would happen rather rapidly sometimes.

I think I was having that too, every once in awhile I would get this random jarring action when I thought it should be shifting, I'm hoping it was the lockouts and not the new trans, guess I'll find out tomorrow!

The auto hubs are a nice idea. Just imo not very reliable with hundreds of thousands of miles and abuse.

Yea I got um both swapped out yesterday, both the plastic cam pieces blew up, pass side that metal clip that kept the axle but from backing off broke off and is no longer existent..... so I tore that hub all the way down and cleaned it all up and re greased everything. Going to put in my big tranny cooler today and test er out!

Well having the mannual lockouts in made a load of difference, I gauge it by watching throttle position over a certain length of road on my drive to town at the same speed.... I was running about 35-40% throttle position with the old lockouts at 65ish mph and now I'm running 23-27% throttle position in the same area. Also the shifts are smoother, no more crazy 3-4 shift, at least not yet.

It's seeming that way, been in the truck all morning and all is well, what I'm thinking is that the hubs trying to kick in and out when the tranny unloaded between shifts was causing the funny shifting, it's going through ggears pretty much perperfectly now

Seems very possible to me, but I would have no idea. I am just glad you got it working well.

That's great to hear. I think you'll like the manual lockouts anyway. Leave them unlocked, plus 4LO = 2LO for backing trailers. It's probably not as big a deal with an automatic, but with a manual, that's a VERY good thing.

I have had to use low to back trailers in the 97 before... especially when there's snow on the ground reverse is to high a gear alone to keep from slipping.

When they work correctly they are the cats pajamas.

Its when they don't that I dislike them.
So expensive to replace!

Interesting. I always use 4 low. Didn't know I could do this... Thanks for the tip.
