well my 1 through 3 shifts have really smoothed out, but 3 to 4 is still pretty hard hitting! I'm hoping it ends up smoothing out soon to, I'm not really sure what normal is supposed to be. I might have to hook the trailer up and pull it around see if it makes a difference.... I've been smelling a bit of transmission fluid to but I'm not sure where its coming from I've rolled around under there again this morning and can't see any leaks except for the transfer case output leaks just a little but its done that ever since i had it.

It's kinda crazy you are saying this. I have experienced the exact same thing with my JW regarding the smell and the hard 3-4 shift. It does not do it all the time, but when pulling hard, it'll hit hard. It isn't bone jarring, but you feel it. Also, the smell!! LOL It has never leaked, but it scared me a few times when I got out of the truck from driving a distance. I totally expected to see fluid everywhere. I am guessing the syn fluid is putting off more smell coming out of the vent? Again, mine has never leaked a drop so that is all I can figure. Maybe Glenn will have some input on this as well? Glenn?

long as it doesn't leak and holds together im happy lol also Brian and I discussed putting another cooler on it but decided against it, my old trans would run somewhere around 140 to max 160 *F and this one i have seen run up towards 180 max and consistent around 160 *F..... I don't know if i should try and get it back down towards 140 with another cooler. its around 30-40 degrees out here and I don't know what itll run when its 100 outside.

I can't say mine ever did that. I never smelled fluid and I think the shifts, if anything, are too soft. John told me to bring it back after I did my build but I tried and tried to get him to adjust the shifts but he refuses to talk to me. Why? IDK I'll be trying to get ahold of him again before I leave in April to see if he wants to do a 23K service or a 33K service when I get back in Oct. I don't want to lose my warranty because I'll be gone when it hits 30K.

On another note, my temps never get above 165* when towing and stay at 150-155* driving empty. With the cold weather, it was staying at 145*. Heck maybe my Edge is off! LOL

well some bad news, the radiator started leaking around one of the tranny cooler fittings, leaking coolant though not oil, so i picked up a new radiator, and that kinda got me thinking..... since my tranny cooler is internal with the radiator if the fluids somehow end up mixing id be screwed.... so i also ordered a 6.0 L tranny cooler the 32-33 row one and will be installing it when i do the radiator! in addition to that i now have a bad automatic lockout on the drivers side and it seems like the on on the passenger side is stuck locked in.... so i guess ill be swapping it over to manual lockouts to because i don't know anywhere to get parts for the automatic lockouts.

also sometimes that 3 to 4 shift is like hitting a brick wall. I really don't know if thats ok or not because sometimes it goes super smooth through all the gears but if i really get after it it is like you dropped the front wheels into a pothole and it hopped back out..... idk if that could be related to the problems with the lockouts though..... everything seems to be going wrong at once since i got rid of the old trans.

I know this is a bit off topic for the theme of this thread, but can you elaborate on the automatic lockouts going bad. Basically how did you know? What were the symptoms? How to diagnose them? I've got a suspicion something is wrong with mine as well.

yea just a matter of getting to it, got all the parts coming in but i don't know how much further i should drive it, i can maybe do it in the driveway and just take the hubs in in my car to the shop and clean them, or drive the truck to the shop in town, which doesnt have heat anyway but has the parts washer.

The last hubs I changed out were pretty easy and done in my driveway. Took me about 30 minutes a side, and that was taking my time. Whatare you upgrading to? Warns? Superwinch?
