EOT Normal Hot or Cool

Hey all been watching my EOTs lately and to be honest i don't know really where they should be. Mainly watching them due to my oil cooler leaking. Noticed it leaking friday and have had the truck parked since then. Had to run and pick up a machine today from a job and was paying close attention to them.

So i know that they can all differ. Mainly i feel mileage on the cooler and depending how you would service your coolant and oil along with what thermostat and what your doing with the truck and the ambient temp can all play a roll..

So for me new CAT ELC with new Waterpump (last weekend) 205* thermostat . Oil is 15-40 rotella.

Today here in north FL it was roughly 70* when pulling my equipment home. Its a asv rc100 skiddloader (10500lb) on a dual tandem 25' gooseneck (6500lb) so all together 17,000lb

Through town a few stoplights and light hills got it up to 215 fairly quick. Then the interstate. After going up the on ramp and getting up to 65 i was at 221 on my EOT. My OD kicked in and gravity helped going down a small grade. EOT dropped to 215* and stayd there till the next climb which hit 221 again.

Off the interstate it cooled to 212 and then a short stop and go through traffic it was back up to 221 then cool to about 217.

Finally got on the back roads running about 45 or 50 and it hovered around 215 to 217. Would get back up to 220 if i hit a good hill. Got back home and unloaded and left it at idle and after about 5 or so min it was idling about 192*.

Main reason for asking what the temps should be or if this sounds normal is due to me about to take the oil cooler off to install new orings. If it sounds like the cooler is doing its job great ! If not then id like to replace it with a new one.
That too and I'm mainly interested to know the EOTs for our trucks.

I had been watching it and it normally stays between 200 and 210.

For towing/hauling, sounds within the norm to me. Might be a bit lower with a stock TS, but considering you have the 203* TS, sounds about right.

Those numbers are about ten to fifteen degrees higher than what I run with a 195* thermostat. I think you are good.

Sounds a little warmer than I would expect for 70 deg or so, but with you running a higher temp thermostat, I'd guess that is to be expected.

Mine will hit 210-220 pulling long grade with 9,500 lbs. Fix the leak and keep an eye on it..

Awesome guys thanks thats exactly what i wanted to hear.

Im pulling the cooler to do my orings as soon as i get them from Bob. Ordered fri so hopefully by wed will be installing.

Just wanted to make sure the cooler was still working properly as far as cooling went. That way if it was not i could replace it while it was out. No signs of foamy milky oil and no signs of oil in coolant. So it must be fine.

Im going to throw the 195 stat back in when i do the cooler while the coolant is out to get it back to stock.

So how hot is too hot ? What would be considered a dangerous temp for the oil ?

I think every truck has its own personality! Humidity also plays a part in cooling.

Have you suddenly noticed an increase or something?

Just finished a 230 mile trip of straight highway driving in 65-70 degree weather with almost no hills and oil temps ranged from 202 to 218. My gross weight with my utility bed is 9,900lbs and I'm using Rotella T6. I assume I have the stock thermostat. I also have a DS coolant filter in case that makes a difference.

Oh - in case it helps - I was ranging transmission fluid temperatures between 155 and 175. I do NOT have a 6.0 cooler.

No but haven't really paid attention to it. And will be pulling the oil cooler this week for r&r of the leaky orings. So i was paying attention to it today. Just want to make sure its in check so i don't have to pull it twice like i mentioned in the above post.

Yes i mentioned all elements like ambient temp, load, humidity, t-stat etc above also. Lots of factors but just want to make sure I'm in check.

The new trucks with a load like that get around 249 EOT. So I would say its okay. Check your summer temps and go from there.
