Found a 83 F250 7.5 460 for sale. Single cab long bed. Auto trans, CFM Edelbrock carb and a few other odds and ends.
I'm looking for info and other things that would be of interest.. Mpgs, HP, torque, problems, availability of parts..
Looking at around 2k . reads 74k on the odometer. Assuming 174k?
With a 460 and a C6 auto (which I'm assuming this truck has), mpg is gonna be around 8-10...on a good day. Rust can be a problem if you live where they salt the roads. None of the panels are painted on the inside so rust can take hold there pretty quick. Parts are easily found for these rigs. LMC Truck is one company that carries a lot of repop stuff along with others like Bronco Graveyard. Common parts like plugs, tuneup parts, and wear items are still easily bought at your local parts stores. Lots of these trucks are in junkyards too. eBay is also a good source of parts and NOS things. The truck's going to be 31 years old so the odometer could be 74K to 374K. If it has service records that's a plus so you can see how the truck's been kept. Look at the brake pedal pad and see how much it's worn, sometimes that's a clue to the true mileage, although the pad can be replaced.
The majority of posts we get on the 460 trucks are about the fuel system. Most of them had dual tanks with electric pumps in the tanks, and a return system with a orifice before it went into the carb. Since they changed the carb, you might have some of this modified already.
The factory sent power to the pumps directly during cranking by using a wire off the starter relay on the fender, and then after that, used a relay controlled by the keyswitch power running through a oil pressure switch.
You can improve your fuel mileage by swapping in a zf 5 speed from a later truck if you wanted to and didn't mind a manual tranny.
