Bypassing the tailgate lock

I am loving my new 2017 Xlt.
However I hate the tailgate lock ,and quite frankly can see NO benefit of this feature.
Drivers door is open , but other doors are locked , tailgate is locked . Can't open tailgate while e gone is running . ARGH !!!
Is there anyway to make the tailgate where it is never locked ?

Prevention of tailgate theft is a pretty nice feature, I think. Would be nice if it unlocked with the driver's door.

Can you change a setting from 2-click unlock to 1-click unlock? Usually if you can find this setting it would unlock everything with one click on your remote, keypad, or door button. I hope they didn't mess this up......

Yes, when I hit my remote to unlock all doors unlock. Same when I hit lock. If I walk up to truck with the fob in my pocket an unlock at the handle all doors unlock. I believe what you are describing is when you come to a stop, put it in park and get out while the engine is running to either open a back door or the tailgate they are still locked. This is annoying and only way to get around it is to hit the unlock button on door or fob if you plan to keep the engine running.

As it's already been said, people are stealing tailgates left and right these days, Esp if it has the backup camera in it. Ounce of prevention I guess.

The dealer my truck came from installs McGard anti theft tailgate guards on every truck on the lot .
So don't really need the tailgate to lock to prevent theft .

As far as I'm concerned this feature is nothing but a PITA!

Im sure you could just disconnect the wire going to the lock. The connector is just behind the bumper. You could try just pulling the pin out of the connector for the lock. Whether that puts a light on i couldnt say.

My F250 had recently an issue where the tailgate would not unlock even though all doors were unlocked. Turned out the tailgate actuator was bad and had to be replaced. The technician disconnected something (sorry don't have more precise information) in the tailgate and I was able to use the tailgate normally while we were waiting for the new actuator to arrive. However, it would not lock when locking the doors. Sounds like this is exactly what you are looking for.

This autolock function annoyed me day one. I understand for some it is a nice security feature, but for guys like me, I'm not in an area or situation where I really ever want it locked. On top of this being a standard feature, there is not even a manual key override like the previous SD, which would have remedied these complaints.

Took the tailgate access plate off and unplugged the actuator .
Problem solved. Probably throwing a code , but no lights or buzzers.

I know it's a pain for some but it was a great suprise to me the other day! Here in florida they are stealing them like hot cakes on a cold day... even the front ends. It's not just a oh it won't happen to me ...it's happening all across the state. Just a month ago a couple went to the movie theater... in their platinum f250...came out and tailgate gone. So the funny part is I had no idea the gate locked ... so mine is lifted it's obviously not fitting in my 2 car garage... so paranoid as hell I'm staring outside all nite.. all the motion lites kicked on to stay.. hoping no one gets my tail gate.. anyways I figured out the gate did lock and love it... yes they could still attempt to get it...by that point they would have a cold .45 pointed in their direction.

Yes this works for some, but there are still times when locking it may come up, and re-connecting could be a hassle. Hey Ford, put a damn manual lock override on there! -like there used to be.

My XLT doesn't have a push button to open the tailgate . It uses a standard tailgate latch handle .
