so recently i switched to rotella t6 for the winter and noticed i have a pretty big oil spot on the driveway. seems to be top rear of the engine from passenger side above the block heater cord but i can't pin point where its coming from. is there anything up there that has problems with leaks? and also i had some rough idleing problems and jerking and bucking when the engine is up to temp and i finally got it in to the shop and of course it ran better then ever and they couldn't do much for me so they told me take it home and see if it acts up again. so i have driven it for two days and all seems to be okay. they told me i have 2 injector contribution codes... is there anyway a bad o ring would cause a leak to be noticeable enough for a spot on the drive way? any advice would be awesome
That's what I figured I just wasn't 100% I'm just lost as to where it's coming from.. It started a few weeks ago and I checked my dip stick and it was dry so I added some more oil. I don't need to add a quart every month or so so I'm just trying to find the problem
A leak from turbo oil drain ot feed or filter houseing will useually flow off the top of the motor at the back of the engine and can drop on the ground depending on how big a leak you have.
Check your CAC boots and where they are clamped - they probably wouldn't leak as much as you described or be responsible for a low crankcase level, but it is worth an inspection.
How long have you been adding oil?
You say you could detect NO OIL LEVEL on the dipstick? So you were what 3 quarts low at this point?

If CAC boots leak that much you have some major problems and it ain't the boots.
I hear ya, but it still might be coming from the boots ............. Excessive crankcase pressure (or a turbo compressor wheel bearing) could be the root cause, but it is worth inspecting the boots since it doesn't sound like he has found anything obvious yet (assuming he has checked what Danny mentioned).

ive been out of town so i havent had time to look until now. i looked under the turbo from on top of the engine and i think i found where it is coming from there is quite a bit of oil on the engine right under the turbo. is there where it would leak from if i had a leak at the turbo oil drain line? also would this cause my truck to run like **** after it gets warm? or possibly that it was low on oil when this was happening? thanks
If it was only 2 qts low, that is not enough to make it run poorly.
alright im just trying to rule everything out. so i was driving around all day today and when i got home just now i climb up onto the engine and directly behind the oil filter housing and infront of the turbo there is a sensor or wire harness for something. do any of you guys know what that could be? and if so would that leak oil like ive heard the icp sensor leaking? my mechanic is backed up a few weeks and im just trying to trouble shoot this my self the best i can. thanks in advance everyone!
your ICP is on your passenger side valve cover (2005 correct?).
Yep it's an 05 and I know where the icp is located I did some research and think I'm referring to the oil pressure sensor. Does this leak? And what symptoms occur when this is bad?
