So some POS decided he liked my '06 6.0 4x4 CC shortbed more than I and swiped it. Happily it was found a couple days later minus the all in one Pioneer unit and my ScanGaugeII. The ****** knew how to jimmy the door and evidently had a pass key so was able to turn it over and unlock the wheel. Life in the big city...
I'd appreciate any recommendations for an alarm system. If it has connections for the four doors, vibration, whatever, swell, I just want to have this thing shut down cold if it ain't me.
There are other products such as jimmijammers but the more you do to make it more difficult to break in means more damage to the truck IMO.
I sprung for a Viper Smart Start system with basically a motion detector. It detects dense objects and starts chirping. It WILL go off if someone sticks their arm inside the vehicle. It also sends an email and alert via the app.
BY THE WAY, if you decide to go with an alarm, put some sort of air horn on it as well. People don't pay much attention alarm systems, but they will be more apt to look when an air horn is going off!!
Directed Electronics (Viper, Python, etc.) makes good alarms and you can find them at Car Toys and most other car audio shops. However, the ravelco will make sure they can't take the truck unless they tow it. Even then, they're drawing attention to themselves.
It doesn't matter. Thugs travel all over to target our trucks. It's EASY money...
Sadly it is...
There's been a rash of robberies in the Houston area where they back a truck into a convenience store to either steal the ATM and/or just grab whatever cash they can.
They're truck of choice in almost all the robberies? 99-07 Super Duties.
Thanks for the suggestions.
One thing- wouldn't it be just as easy to add a kill switch to the key side of the ignition switch than to go through the wiring of the ravelco unit? I mean, it's one less thing to have to keep track of. Not saying it's not worth it, but isn't that all it is?
Believe me, if the sexier half of the relationship wasn't tied to the area, I'd be sooo gone...
The problem with just a kill switch is a lot of thieves look for them.
I have an aquaintance who has a row of upfitter switches one of them is delibertly misslabled it is actually a kill switch. It actually lights the lamps it is labeled for but also triggers a relay that kills the engine after so many seconds. So just flipping the switch just for a thief to test does no good.
Thanks Doms, but I have 130 lbs of Malamute that has pits for breakfast. He's dodged a few court cases based on the simple argument of, "What was your pit doing in my yard?"
I agree that if a tweaker is intent on ripping me off with a simple kill switch, it's going to do it, but if I can get the horns, bells and the pooch going, it'll deter it, maybe. I was thinking of doing just that- dummying a upfitter or tying into a factory looking switch, or just really putting it in a place that the wailing and growls won't allow time to look for.
