53 F100 Build Progress

Hello everyone.Iv'e had my truck for a little over a year now.The frame and most of the body work is done from the previous owner. It has a 302 with an AOD that was pulled from a running donor not knowing the condition of the engine or transmission i made my mind up that it needed to come out.The truck is stripped no electrical or nothing pretty much a clean start.I pulled the front clip off yesterday and pulled the engine and tans out today and started stripping the engine down so i can look at the rods and mains and the cylinder bores.Im trying to find exactly what year motor i have and the only numbers i found were above the starter on the block can anyone tell me what these numbers mean? 32 ETTE CA S.Hope to post some pic's soon of my progress.Thank you.

Well i figured out what year my motor is. Apparently it is an 87 302 im hoping to get the heads and the oil pan off in the next few days to determine what direction im going to go with the rebuild.

Well you have a roller cam engine which should have heads with an E7TE casting number. It's nice that you have the fulll front accesory package intact. Looks like a good starting point.

I agree you have a great starting point, those are decent motors in stock form as well

Are you going to keep it fuel injected? The top end of that motor looks pretty clean to me.

Well i got the heads and pan off rolled the engine over to look around and have a question. Can anyone tell me if this is normal?every cylinder bore looks like the rod hit the edge of the cylinder bore one is worse than the rest witch leads me to believe that it was from removing the block from the casting but not sure? Any ideas or should i be concerned about this? Thanks

Don't know much about 302 internals, but the engine looks very clean inside (typical of EFI engines that were maintained. I wouldn't be in a hurry to rip it apart if it was mine. I'd be careful not to drop any junk into it, button it back up with some new garkets, check the compression and do a blow down test on it. You could save yourself a lot of time and money!
Like I said in another post, to me taking off the EFI and putting on a carb is like taking out your cell phone's touch screen and putting a rotary dial in it's place. How long did it take you to adapt to smart phone/computers? EFI is similar situation, a little different technology with a short learning curve, but much easier than setting up a smart phone! Carbs are a lot more complex to set up/tune properly, need regular maintenance/adjusting and waste gas and power.

There are a number of places that will clean down the wiring harness, reflash the ECU for less than the cost of a new intake and carb. After that it's just PnP.
