Like I said in another post, to me taking off the EFI and putting on a carb is like taking out your cell phone's touch screen and putting a rotary dial in it's place. How long did it take you to adapt to smart phone/computers? EFI is similar situation, a little different technology with a short learning curve, but much easier than setting up a smart phone! Carbs are a lot more complex to set up/tune properly, need regular maintenance/adjusting and waste gas and power.

There are a number of places that will clean down the wiring harness, reflash the ECU for less than the cost of a new intake and carb. After that it's just PnP.

Now that you seen the lower end what do you think about the top end?.When i pulled the heads i got some debris on top of one of the pistons i rolled it over and blew it out with air.

I think I'd do a basic home overhaul on it while I had it as far apart as you.

You know, the basics.....

Oil Pump
Bearings
Rings
A hone
Timing Components
Seals
Etc.

As far as EFI goes..... I am guessing that is an older ECU system, little to no programming for it. It is also a TFI system, no as good as the newer EDIS.

Is it throttle body injection, or sequential? If sequential I might salvage the EFI system, if not I think I would go to the simplicity of a carb and convert to a mechanical distributor.

It's sequential as the injectors are visible in the pictures. I think the top end looks pretty clean (as in relatively low mileage). Is the cross-hatching(swirl marks) from honing still visible on the cylinder walls? Or, do they look completely slick?

I will look closer for the cross hatching it wasn't that noticeable but didn't pay much attention.I would say sequential?

Somebody needs to produce an intake for the EFI engines that looks decent...I think that many more people would keep the EFI setup if it looked better.

In general, I agree with you but I like this tubular intake:

On second thought, the outside of the motor shows many years of crud. Maybe it is time for a rebuild.

Dude you SCORED!

That is the High Output engine out of a mustang. Has the good heads, sequential injection and all.

Time for you to start reading up on it. I would join up over at thecorral (mustang forum)!

Good luck! Awesome find! If all the block numbers and stuff are right, that thing may be worth some money to those guys.
