I always do both sides as it can put more strain on the old stuff and also all the seals all the tie rods, center link and sway bar bushings. Plus when you get it realigned there will be no surprises.
A local shop wouldn't do an alignment on my 2004, F250 4x4, because they found excessive wear on my front left lower ball joint.
Now, this is my first truck, I've always done my own mechanical car work, ball joints included. Am I getting in over my head with the 4x4, solid axle? The shop quoted about $400 to do the work. They said the upper ball needs to be removed to get the lower ball out, but that's about as far as they would explain the process.
I have air equipment, and not afraid to get the required tools.
