draglink/ balljoint q's

well i went to get an alignment done and they told me its not possible until i replace my upper ball joints and passenger side tie rod end (drag link). i have been doing lots of reading and research and found pictures and step by step instructions on what i need to do, but not for MY truck. mostly newer ones. so does anybody have any input or advice for me? they were talking about 1200 bucks so screw that. i'm no mechanic, but a proud doityourselfer and i'm not scared to grab a wrench. to this day i have saved tons of dollars and gained a semi decent wealth of knowledge and experience. thanks guys.
p.s. i had no problem finding the tie rod, but many problems finding the upper ball joints for sale. numberdummy any insight on that?

If your truck is a '69, it doesn't have ball joints.

hmm well that would be an interesting reason for me not being able to find the upper ball joints if they dont exist. thanks i appreciate it. but i dont doubt something is worn out somewhere down there because she is all over the place on the freeway when i hit a bump.

could be any number of things, just jack up the front and start to try to move stuff if it moves and looks like it shouldnt be then there you go...check all the rubber joints see if they are bad...

If it's a 2 wheel drive, it'll have king pins on the I beams, which could well be shot.

The usual parts affecting alignment.

1969 F100 2WD ~ 1965/70 F100 2WD is the same EXCEPT for the king pins (1965 F100 2WD only: C5TZ-3111-C).

King Pins (Kit): C8TZ-3111-A (1966/70 F100)

Tie Rod Ends: C5TZ-3A130-A .. Left Inner-to Drag Link (short) / C5TZ-3A131-A .. Left Outer-to Spindle (long).

Axle Pivot Bushings: (2) C5TZ-3B177-A

Draglink: C5TZ-3304-C

Radius Rod Bushings: D5TZ-3B203-C (was C5TZ-3B203-B) / D5TZ-3B203-D (was C5TZ-3B203-C).

Ford part number listed FYI, only the radius rod bushings are still available.

These numbers can be cross referenced by NAPA to the brands they sell.

On trucks with Twin-I-Beam front suspension, it's necessary to bend the king pins to align the front end.

No ball joints on F100/350 2WD's till the 1980's.

Yes, it's the I beam that's bent (straightened) for alignment.

If its 2WD, the rubber bushings at the end of the radius arms and at the ends of the I beams should be replaced, thats probably whats letting it wander all over the place.

The axle (I-Beam) pivot bushings are rubber with a steel insert, and (usually) need to be pressed out/in.

Otherwise they can be a PITA to replace by using hand tools.

quick update. i jacked up the front end. me and my buddy wiggled everything. i need a new rag joint for the steering column, new passenger side kingpin, and i need to replace the center link or drag link i think it is, oh and both shocks. now i see why i hit a bump and it wants to run me off the road. maybe after all that i'll get the alignment and be dialed in !

C9UZ3A525A .. Steering Coupler (rag joint) / Fits: 1969/74 F100/350 2WD

Available from Ford.

MSRP: $75.00 / FTEpartsguy.com price: $54.00

AFAIK, no one sells just one king pin, so you'll have to buy a kit.
