Hi guys I went back to 3.90 gears from 4.30. I used to run this set up a while back. Not to high not to low. There's a slight difference on how she runs now. She doesn't pull hard from a stop. I miss that. I can live with it. Lowest I'll go is 3.73.
My ford trucks are either 3.55's or 4.10's, my Cobra still has 3.08 gears, my 05 GT has 3.73's and my Ram 1500 work truck has 3.90's. I had 4.56's in it for a couple years and loved them, but since I'm moving and will be driving a lot more highway miles and my pinion seal was leaking I went to the 3.90's. It feels "normal" in both a good and bad way... 2k rpm is now 70mph vs 60mph but the acceleration is definitely changed. It still gets up and goes for a 4.7 v8, but with the 4.56's and an empty bed flooring it off the line would leave 10-15' of stripes... Not power braking, just mash foot to the floor from a stop. It did however get 10.5mpg everywhere it went with the 4.56's. Empty, full, towing a 6k travel trailer, towing a car trailer, on the highway, around town... I'm now up to 13.7mpg

Generally "high" and "low" are reversed when talking about gear ratios. 3.55 gears are considered higher than 3.73. Think of it like transmission gears. 1st gear is lower than 4th gear, but the ratio in 1st might be something like 5:1 while 4th gear is 1:1, so 5 is lower than 1
One thing that I try to do to make it a little more clear is use the terms "taller" and "shorter". 3.08 gears are tall, 4.56 are short. That corresponds to tire size, tall gears have the same effect on performance as tall tires, short gears same as short tires.
well, my capri has 2.73's, but the doug nash 4+1 offsets that.
both my 88 and my bronco have 3.55's, which are ok with stock tires, but i would like to do 4.10's. I live a ways from the closest interstate, so i rarely top 65 unless i'm in a hurry.
I run 3.55's but I've been considering a re-gear to either 3.73's or 4.10's after I get my 351 built and in the truck and running good. I rarely ever go over 60 unless I am racing or need to be somewhere and soon so I'm fine with the higher gears. Stock size tires right now as well.
