she isnt pretty but she is fairly solid. f150 ranger 2wd auto with the 400m. want to restore it.Been sitting for many years, wont turn over. took the plugs out and shot some wd down the cylinders. going to let it sit overnight. if the motor is junk should i rebuild the 400? i want to make a hot rod truck out of it. I've never had a 400m. i have had the 351w and a 460 and the good old 300 I6 and a 7.3 idi. dont know what to expect from this engine. some people trash talk it on the inner webs ... is it a bad engine? i tryed like hell to turn it over with a wrench tonight but it wouldnt budge.
The 400 is somewhat of a mutt. I'd build a 460.... better aftermarket support and it won't even break a sweat making 380+ hp with off the shelf parts.
i like the sound of that.
started the tear down tonight. engine still wont turn over so im going to pull it and see what the deal is. i see a 460 in my future. here are some more pics. not much but a lot of rust.
dont know if i want to keep the trim or not
rear window and track are junk.
going to put a 76 front end, like the round headdlight look better
crusty old 400
bench seat is going to go, got some buckets to put in
Hooey. That pup sure let the rough side drag... glad yer gonna breathe life into the old girl... she deserves better. A 460 swap is gonna be relatively easy.
What's the plan for the 'hot rod' truck? Got details?

Since this truck has optional Speed Control, it may also have the optional tilt steering wheel, which is operated by pressing the T/S handle forward.
