What I've done on a few of my vehicles, is take the door panel off and find the wires that lead to the door latch and cut them. There will be 2 wires, and on mine, all I did was cut the wires and tape them up. This way, the truck won't know when the door is open, but the buzzer will still operate for other warnings. The only downfall is that your dome light won't come on when a door opens...

Yeah...it wouldn't be good to be driving down the road for 10 minutes with no oil pressure because you didn't have any warning chime...

Just a thought here - but this might defeat other safety devices that we may not be aware of...
Auto locking of doors when moving the vehicle (many might not care)
Possible defeat of air bags since the truck does not know if the doors are open/closed (many would care)..
I don't really know, but there is someone - somewhere that does... Just thinking out loud...

When you snip the wires...the truck now defaults to thinking the doors are closed....just like driving down the highway, all the safety features still function (if any are related).

I might have made the same assumption...

BUT - do we know that there is not some other function of those wires or potential sensing to Ground (the third possible conductor)...

You see - I don't know, and I think that anyone that truly WOULD know would have the engineering drawings and the programming information for the body control module.. Having done my fair share of firmware programming in past years, I made liberal use of the ground reference for a number of circuits..

If the dinger bothers you, close the door or turn off the key...

If you find the answer from a Ford tech/engineer...please let us know. I'll be the first to put my foot in my mouth if I'm wrong.

Until then, I'll rely on the assumption (and my past experiences disabling it) that Ford is not going to spend the time and money to somehow link the door latch to the airbags, TPMS, headlights, or whatever else they feel like doing (sarcasm).

I have seen wiring diagrams on a couple, and they are just a simple open/closed circuit. When the door opens, it breaks the circuit and the buzzer comes on. Close the door, and it completes the circuit turning off the buzzer.

Some of us like to work around our truck with the radio playing. Sometimes we even like to sit around a campfire and listen to music from the radio. Gotta open the doors to hear the music, and I'd rather not listen to my favorite songs with a *DING-DING-DING-DING* screwing it up

How about physically disabling the speaker?
Or call your local ford dealership and tell them your speaker has failed and inquire if it will affect anything else?

So ATC, are you confirming that all safety features such as auto door locking work when these wires are cut? Hopefully you don't have to ever test the Air Bags.

If breaking the connection by cutting both wires is required, it would strike me as really odd. I would think that if it is a simple SPST switch that cutting just one wire would do the trick. And if cutting just one wire does it, then why not wire in another SPST switch into that wire and have that toggle in the door jam?

Maybe another way to skin the cat...

I've always just cut both of them. You very well may be able to just cut one and put it on a toggle. That is a smart idea.

Also, the door latch in my experience, is completely seperate from the door locking mechanism. You can lock and unlock the doors regardless of whether they are open or closed. Air bags will work whether the door is open or closed. Air bags work off of sensors on the frame and strategic points on the body. Absolutely nothing to do with a door latch...

Again, with the wires cut, the truck thinks the door is shut. Every function the truck does will work just as if you are driving down the road....well, unless you are use to driving down the road with your door open. I don't see how this is so hard to understand

If I were on a computer, I'd post some wiring diagrams.

I still want to disconnect the + wire, and then verify that the locks still auto engage at 5mph when driving. If the locks still work then nothing else should be disabled either.
Thanks All
