Clicking sound
I have a Class C RV based on a 1982 Econoline E350 with a 7.5L V8.
When I switch to the front fuel tank I hear a clicking sound from the component pictured below. I don't think this is the fuel pump but I'm not sure. The line from both tanks pass through the switch valve then through this component. It only clicks when the front tank is selected. I have not left it running long enough to see if fuel still gets to the engine as I don't want to cause further damage.
I'm looking for your thoughts and advice on this situation.
Thanks!
Not sure what this is.
Just in case anyone from the future needs to know, this is a Facet Auxiliary fuel pump. I think the clicking is caused by the lack of fuel getting to the pump when I switch to the other tank. The pump itself seems to be working just fine even though it is old and ugly. (Don't tell it I said that.)
My next step is to try see if the tank switching valve is operating properly and clean the fuel line if it is clogged.
I sure wish my HOA would allow me to keep my RV at home so I could work on it more conveniently. *****!

Typically these fuel pumps consist of a spring loaded solenoid that is cocked by 12VDC current through a coil. The spring provides the fuel pressure. The cycling can be via a pulsed DC supply OR a contact closure when the spring is extended.
Thank you for your response. I was wondering how it worked since it doesn't look like any kind of spinning impeller pump. That explains the clicking sound when it was starved of fuel.
I'm thinking about replacing it just to have a newer one for reliability. Do you think I should replace it with the same solenoid pump or go with a newer style?
