Do fuel pumps groan?
I just recently purchased a 1996 F-150 Short Box with the 5.0L engine. The truck has run pretty good with the exception of some severe jerking. This turned out to be a problem with the torque converter. A power flush and some conditioner and it’s about 99% better now. My question now is about a noise that sounds like it’s coming from under the bed of the truck. It’s probably a fuel pump, but it’s not the normal whine that I’ve been accustomed to on other vehicles. The really strange thing is that when I bought the truck a week ago I didn’t hear this noise at all. Today when we pulled into the driveway I noticed a new sound. I can make the sound change by changing the tank selector to the rear tank. I get a sound there too, but not as noisy. The sound from the front tank is almost a groaning sound. Is it possible that the fuel pump could go bad (or start to) that quickly. I know I didn’t hear this sound yesterday. Are there any recalls regarding the fuel tanks/pumps?
Also, could someone tell me how many fuel filters there are and where they are located? From reading a few of the posts, it doesn’t look like changing the fuel pumps is very fun, or cheap.
Thanks
