gas caps question

Question - comparing the two caps (first one is for 1974 F100, w/EEC; second one is for 1977 F-150 w/o EEC), other than the venting differences and decorative piece for the 74, due to no concealment door on that model, I see very little difference. Though some say there is a depth difference in the cam, I can take the one for the 1977 and put it on my 74 and it fights tightly. In fact, when I bought the truck in 2012, PO had a later style/non-EEC cap on, which I changed.

My son just lost the gas cap last night - I used the one for my 'parked' 77 as a quick fix, but shoot, it looks to work ok.

Any issues??

No truck in the 1970's has EEC which is the abbreviation for Electronic Engine Control system = On board computer.

Evaporative Emission abbreviated Evap/Em uses a non vented fuel cap (has 4 "ears"), the fuel filler tube is also specific to Evap/Em.

D4TZ-9030-A (replaced D3TZ-9030-A) .. Fuel Cap-Non Locking - Use without Evap/Em (Motorcraft FC-98-A) / Obsolete

1973/76 F100/250 Stylesides & F350 Super Camper/Trailer Specials.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
D7UZ-9030-L (replaced D3TZ-9030-B) .. Fuel Cap-Non Locking - Use with Evap/Em (Motorcraft FC-792) / Obsolete

1973/76 F100/350 Stylesides.

You're right Bill. I felt stupid using the EEC acronym - should have said EES - Evaporative Emission System

Ford never called it ESS either, it's abbreviated Evap/Em

That's not what Ford called it - it's what the parts houses are calling it. EES.
