Hey guys I want to build a relatively budget 347 stroker and put a charger or twin turbos on it. I think I have mid 90s 5.0l and an older 70s 302. What would be a good block to start with? I can't build a motor with out good heads. Has anyone built one?
I'm thinking I can get the parts together and machine work done for. Around 8 9 grand which is relatively cheap. For the hp. I'm sticking it in a Ford Ranger. Lol
Those blocks are supposedly only reliable up to about 400 horse. That's a pretty fair budget. You will overpower the Ranger rear suspension quite easily even without a blower. You planning on a rework there also?
In addition to the roller question, compare the main caps. Go with the bigger ones if they are different. Go with the least amount of overbore also.
The truck can handle the hp. It's got a 9 inch in with coils and custom 4 link. I have never built a 5.0l though. I know the blocks need some help to handle the power. I've heard of mustang guys running 500 on stock blocks. But I don't have much info on what's the best block to start with and so on.
Yes you can get 500hp from a 302 block but it's a ticking time bomb looking for a place to go off... boost causes the block to warp and eventually split and there is no way to know if it'll run for a few thousand miles or blow up the first time you wind it up. Do you really have $10k to just throw away on some fun?
If you want a reliable motor either start with a 351 block or buy an aftermarket 302 block.
X2 except id still want 351+ cubes if going aftermarket block
Ding!
If willing to throw 8-9k at something an extra 1500 or so for a block is a mute point, right? If staying 8.2" is the goal then throw an 8.2" Dart block at it, bore it 4.155", and use that 3.400" crank and 5.400" rod and you'll have yourself a nice little 372" deal...
