I am in the infantcy stage of putting together a new motor for my truck. I am looking at a set of e7 heads with an E-cam. The springs required are already installed on the heads. 150 bucks for it all, my question is will i need to buy a certain year block for this to work and what affect will this have when I put it in my EFI 95 truck?
If the e cam is a flat tappet, the block doesn't matter. If it's a roller, technically the block doesn't matter either, but one option to run roller is generally more expensive than the other when starting from scratch.
I'm assuming you're building a 351, which came roller ready in the early 90s. I think it's 93-94 but someone else can chime in an exact year, I can never remember. If you have a non roller block, you can get retrofit lifters which run 400 bucks and up...might seem pricey but it all depends on what you have for a block and what you can find.
E7s are terrible, might want to source something else.
E Cam isn't speed density friendly, although some people use them and find ways to deal with the inconvenience of poor idle, so using one will require a tune with maf. Easy enough if your truck is already maf....a little more info on your truck will help, a lot of blind assuming here.
E7 heads are the same as what is on your motor now and the E303 cam isn't at all truck friendly unless you got something like 4.56 gears with stock sized tires. It's a lousy truck cam but it seems everybody wants one for the lopey idle sound so you can use it but don't say you weren't warned.
Building a stock 302 to put back in the truck. I don't want to have to buy a bunch of different parts for a 351, So i am getting a rebuildable 302 to put back in.
