I was changing my air filter and found oil residue on the filter and oil in the intake ducting. I took it in they say it's supposed to be there. I need some direction!!!!
IMO this isn't normal & shouldn't be there. Some paper air filters are now lightly oiled, but shouldn't have so much that it drains, or is pulled off with air flow, as that could foul/bake on the MAF sensors heated element, that's just a short distance down stream of the air filter & corrupt its PID output to the computer about true airflow into the engine & that could affect fuel trim, mpg & driveability problems, like engine ping, or bog down (from being slow to respond) from a lean air/fuel mixture when you go at throttle up.
EDIT: If it was an over oiled foam, or cotton gauze type air filter, they're known to bleed oil & foul the MAF sensor.
Is this puppy still under warranty???? If not, how many miles on it now, what brand, or type air filter was it & what service grade & viscosity engine oil are you using???? What is your drive cycle & driving conditions like???
Have you looked at, or changed the PCV valve & if so, is it OEM???
Some thoughts for consideration, with more details, the forum may be able to offer up more focused ideas.
"Ford advised: replacing the valve cover to incorporate the latest design of the vent tube which now has an internal baffle to prevent oil from migrating all the way up to the air intake tube and to the throttle body."
