Chip / Tuning Connection Issues
So a couple years ago I was running an F5 chip with DP Tunes and loved it.
I'm running different tunes now but I'm considering picking up an F5 or F6 from Jody since I only ran his tunes before I did Turbo/Injector/HPOP upgrades.
Here's my issue. I fried my PCM at one point back in the day (oops) and replaced it with a refurbished NVK4 PCM.
It's a good PCM but my current chip and pcm lose connection sometimes when I go over cattle grates or hit big potholes and my truck shuts down. At that point I'm rolling with no power steering.... Scary stuff.
This is due to 2 reasons:
-The tin is a bit thin on the PCM
-The Chip has a couple contact pins that are slightly bent.
So I'm trying to figure out my options here.
1.) Re-Tin the PCM somehow & buy a new chip/tunes
2.) Get a new PCM & a new chip/tunes
3.) Re-Tin the PCM & Get a tune flashed onto my PCM ( can always add chip later)
4.) Just get a flash on PCM with no Re-Tin (would get me going but poses possible connection issues if I put a chip on it later unless I re-tin it then)
5.) Get a new PCM with a flash (can always add chip later)
What do you think is the best option?
How do I get my PCM Re-Tinned if I choose to go that route?
I think it would be Ideal to get either get a "new to me" PCM with a flash on it, or re-tin my PCM and send it in for a flash. Then I can always buy a chip to put on it later.
Or I could go the cheapest/easiest route and just send in my PCM as is for a flash and re-tin it later when I go to buy a new chip.
As you can tell, I'm stewing on options.
I just want to address my safety hazard as soon as possible / not be wasteful with money / have the peace of mind that I have a reliable setup.
Will be getting tuning that accounts for GPT38R since I will be getting one of those and I doubt the tuning is far off in comparison to the turbonetics.
I'd really appreciate the help.
Looking at getting the following....
Gauge Switch Blue - Silver Bezel - Black Face
If I'm getting tunes instead of a flash I'm looking at the following.
I am sure about the 0-3 setup, but 4 and 5 I'd like advice.
0 - No Start
1 - High Idle 1100 - Warm Up, Boost AC, Running Winch, Jumpstart
2 - 60hp Codes Tow
3 - 80hp Daily - Daily Driving for Mileage
I'd like to have a 140 code. What is the difference between aggressive & Extreme?
I assume the spread between 80 for mileage and 140 is pretty substantial.
Would you suggest 100 performance or 120 race to bridge the gap?
