They actually have cars and trucks there too, I think.

I would think so, when I talked to them as well at the show, they said they update the design and make it better all the time.

I am going to replace my column. Mine has no markings on it so I don't know the manufacturer. I suspect it is not a good one. The tilt mech is breaking down and a part fell off. I could feel it when turning the wheel. It was hnging up a little. (I did not drive it that way)

There as so many choices for columns, and prices. Although I don't want to spend a fortune for a column, I won't buy junk either...

I was looking at the ididit columns and came across this:

Quality + Safety = ididit

I also need to choose between painted and chrome. I am not sure if the chrome will hold up. Anyone have an opinion on chrome?

I am installing the 30" Ididit paintable, because it gives me the flexibility to match my interior color. Whether chrome or paintable it is a choice of the individual. IMHO the chrome sticks out as flashy, where as the paint leads to individuality and blends into the total scheme of the build.

Also this one from ididit.

Don't think you will go wrong with either. Check where the wire exits the column, i believe the ididit comes out closer to the drop mount so might be easier to hide behind the drop mount. Ididit also allows you to move that opening to a certain distance.

This last week sure has been a busy one. When I went to the SEMA Show last Tuesday I had a few must do stops. My first was to Flaming River, I have used their steering racks in several cars and their products are all top quality. My next stop was at Ididit. I talked with Ken the owner and founder of the company for about a half an hour. He pointed out why there product is the best on the market, sealed roller bearings, company in business for 27 years and all the parts were made here in the US. They had columns on display that you could check out for tightness and fit and finish. Ken did say that they have sold several columns to folks that were dissatisfied with a knock off column.
I then went to CPP and showed them the video of my column. They took my name and contact information and I was off to see the rest of the show. CPP did not state that they made any specific improvements to their column since I purchased mine but implied more that I just got a bad one. On Wednesday morning I recieved a email from the representitive that I talked to at CPP. They requested my shipping information and stated that they were sending me a new column.

When I went to the show I went with a purpose of making a decision on a column and I did. After the show Tuesday I ordered an Ididit from Summit Racing. The FR and Ididit were both available from Summit and both the same price.

Summit delivered my new Ididit Thursday afternoon. I am headed to Goodguys in Scotsdale this Thursday so I decided to install the Ididit. The difference between the two columns is night and day. It's a pleasure to drive the 48 again. If CPP follows through and does send me a new column I will have to decide what project I will use it on.

Chuck,

To dang bad they didn't strip it down to find out the issue with it. Or if are they letting you keep it? If so, are there any chances you would solve the mystery and break it down to see what the issue was?

Do you remember if it was sloppy to start out with?

I am in the market for one, so if you were to decide to sell it, let me know. Still not settled on which brand to go with. Ididit sure seems the way to go.

I disassembled the column and found the broken part. There a 2 of these (slightly different in size) that position the tilt. Looks like a weak point were it broke.

I found out it is a Flaming River:

I'm not sure if this marking was the PO or the manufacturer:

I decided to replace it with this one:

Ididit 1120280010 Ididit Universal Tilt Floor Shift Steering Columns - Free Shipping on All Orders @ JEGS

Turns out I need a 28"

Flaming River is supposed to be one of the "good" ones, I'd send them the picture for their reaction, and hopefully, for revisions to the part.

Judging by the marking, Sonny either installed or inspected it on 10/31/07. Assuming that is a date...

I wonder if they made any changes on the newer ones? Be interesting to know. Are you going to contact them?
