Ok now I have some more embarrassing questions. Is there a way to tell what gears are in the truck? The reason I ask this is because the guy has a MAG-HYTEC differential cover on the truck but doesn't know what gears are in it. Second the exhaust pipe on the truck is 4" in diameter but has a mango flow 5" tip on it. The exhaust sounds like a plane engine (you know the whistling/blowing sound of an idle plane engine). It sounds more like a whistle and if I get down on it has more of a pop to it. I ask this question because of course he doesn't know what type of exhaust is on it either. I'm almost at the point of regretting this decision just because of the hassle I have to find out what is on the truck before I change out anything. Your help is greatly appreciated guys.
There's an axle code on the driver's door... that will tell you what came in the truck from the factory. More than likely you have 3.73....could be 4.10.
EDIT....I think 3L is the code for a 3.73 limited slip
If you suspect the gears were changed....here's a way to get a rough idea what you have.
