I don't plan on doing any towing with my truck. I have an older truck that we do all the working with. I'm sending my FICM to ED this week. I have a set of tunes from Matt, 4" exhaust, and getting a Powermaxx stage 1 probably next week. My question is if I don't plan on doing any towing would it be wise to do EGR delete. I've read different threads to were if you delete you need to watch the egt temps closer. Is there any truth to this. My truck is really a toy. I don't work it at all. Dont judge me I just like to play with my big truck.
Ok so here is my story I purchased the truck, and I was toldthat it already had arp studs and egr delete. When I got the truck, and took it to a diesel shop none of that was doneand maintenance was non-existent. I wentback to guy I bought it from and he said he had no idea and that he took it toa shop and supposedly had it bullet proofed and they told him it was done. I had him buy all the parts and go half on the labor. Although this is a believable story everytime I ask him something about the truck he is oblivious to what I am talkingabout so either he is a liar or a complete moron (I guess not if he sold it to me). This is my first diesel anythingso I have to learn everything I can from here and other sources.
If your truck is an early '04 with the round EGR cooler you shouldn't have any problems with it. It's internal design is what the aftermarket copied to make the "bulletproof" coolers us later model owners pay extra $$ for.
The late '04 trucks have the ICP sensor on the passenger side valve cover.

Well, in that case an EGR delete would reduce soot in the engine, maybe even free up a few ponies. On the EGT, a gauge is a good idea anyway, and custom tunes are the way to go, so you can get the tunes tweaked to bring them back down.
Just my opinion, but I'd leave the EGR valve in place and plugged in to avoid any potential issues with the cooling fan operation and stop the exhaust flow with whatever EGR cooler delete you like.
If emission testing involves a visual inspection, a regular delete will likely get spotted. In that case a "stealth delete" would be the way to go. I've read several post now where a truck with an EGR delete passed the tailpipe sniffer test.
I'm sorry to bother you guys but I have a plethora of questions about my truck that the guy can't answer most have been answered from reading post here. I live in MS emissions are not a problem here.
So I got a sent of tunes from Matt, but before that I had purchased a egr cooler. After I programmed the tunes I see no EGR function anymore can someone tell me how this works, and do I still need the new egr cooler or should I get my money back. A better question would be if I delete it will I need it anyway.
