The worst part about the plastic cover is when you have new tires installed and the guy at the tire store does a sloppy job and scratches the plastic.
The reason I went with the polished aluminum 20" rims.
Yea my 2012 had the Premium cast aluminum wheels. I liked those a lot. I'd love to upgrade to the Platinum cast wheels but they are hard to find and pricey. Having made this mistake I'll never but the Chrome package again Basically paid 1200 for something I don't like. I'm not a huge fan of the cheesy chrome mirrors either. But hey live and learn I guess.

I just sold my Platinum cast rims and factory tires for $2k. Actually I still have to meet up with the guy to officially sell them to him so if you drive fast you could beat him to my house and they'll be yours!! haha. I'm sure I'm not the only one changing them out, keep an eye on Craigslist or a site like that and you should be able to find some.
Yea that's a bit of a trip lol. I'd prob pay $1000 for a set maybe $1500 with the crap michelins mounted to them. But it's pretty low on my list right now. My VW TDI Golf project is currently gobbling up all my fun money.
Think of all the beautiful country you'd get to see, haha. I agree that the stock Michelins are a joke. Also agree with you in that the chrome mirrors are hideous, I'm still trying to figure out a way to get rid of mine!!
Yea unfortunately it's the only Non ultimate Lariat I could find in the area. I didn't want all the goodies. Just the my ford touch and leather. Next time I think I'll pop for the Ultimate without the chrome package and get more bang for my buck.
#642 is what I had on my '11. Local hardware store bought it for making deliveries.
#644 is what I have on my '15. I really do want to know what the plastic is hiding!
I hear the "wait til the tire shop scratches them" loud and clear. I've had that happen to aluminum wheels before. I didn't catch it until I had driven away from the shop so they didn't stand behind their error, lesson learned there for sure.
Heck, I will likely ding them up myself before long. I do my own rotations, I work out of my truck, will likely drop a hammer or any of a plethora of tools, might even poke one with a forklift fork.
Those mirror caps! They will be scuffed and painted black by the end of the week. The cheesy FX4 stickers got peeled off before I even left the dealer lot. The sales guy cringed, said those dang stickers are $80ea. I told him he should have given me a $160 credit, lol.
The 07 F150 I had included the "chrome" package. What a farce that was. Exhaust tip rusted away, door handles looked horrible after one winter and the wheels were a thin metal skin over the cast alum wheel, impossible to clean and make them look good. The "chrome" package looks it's best for those few moments the truck rolls off the line and is still in the building, it's all downhill from there.
Maybe at your first tire change, that is only weeks off with the miles you put on, visit a wheel and tire shop to see what they have for new wheels. Keep your eyes open on C/L for wheels too. Market should be good for OEM used wheels with others swapping them out.
I also would never order the chrome package. Have it on my truck and it does not hold-up over time.
