I'm installing my Duraspark and am looking for a good place to source the switched 12v for the module. I was going to spice the pink coil resistor wire behind the ignition switch but it says "resistor" all the way to the switch. I hate to use the accessory terminal in the fuse box because I use it for the a/c. I installed a 3G alternator months ago and took off the external voltage regulator. I used the "hot" wire for the voltage regulator as the hot "excite" for the 3G alternator. Can I source my Duraspark module's 12v switched from the old regulator wire I'm now using to excite the 3G?
Find a wire that's hot with the switch on, and stays hot while the engine is cranking, and cold with the switch off, and cold in the acc mode. Add a resistor if needed and go.
How much amps does that box pull? If not any more then points, What I'd did when installing HEI dizzy was, I removed the pink resistor wire from the ign switch plug and replaced it with a #10 ga wire, I pulled out of a chevy trucks HEI hot wire. A small thin little screw driver can be used to remove the terminal from the plug. Or buy the little terminal and make up a new wire.
I had order two of those little brass flat blade clips that fit in the ign plug but it was a 3 day wait. I could not wait.
I was near a PnP jy and thought hell I'll just remove the chevy's HEI hot wire. So theirs always a chevy trucks at the PnP with in one hr. I has my truck fired up and running. The chevys HEI hot wire is also pink and, I'm still using it.
But you must have the ign key switch that has the flat blade plug terminals.
If not then it will fail you one day. Fords screw up using the round type ign switches & plugs has to be changed out.
The run circuit fails with the round terminal type switch. A bad switch with round terminals = This makes it hard starting..
