90 F250 7.3 Fuel Filter Heater

The fuel heater on my '90 F250 7.3L IDI started leaking, so I ordered a new one. The new one is different from the old, and I just want to be sure it's going to work correctly. Photo attached below. Old on left, new on right.

my fuel heater has not worked in over 23 years.

seeing as you are in North Carolina, i would not worry about hooking it up.

Mine leaks too. I remember a thread where someone replaced th orings, and another where someone just tapped Ikea the hole for a pipe plug. (3/8"?) I think thats the way I will do mine since the heater is not needed with todays fuel.

Edit: According to the thread linked below it is 1/2" npt that you want to tap it to.

How did you replace them? mine has never leaked until now and I actually want to fix the leak instead of plugging it or JB-welding it closed.

as would this if you have filter gelling (fuel filter light) issues.for a fraction of the price.probably works better.

if you want to keep that or run a blanket style and if your truck has an E40D trans;
i recommend disconnecting the factory supply to it and running a devoted fused relay circuit.the factory power supply is run off the main supply to the transmission.in the event of a failure,it can trip your trans fuse (missing gears!) or worse,not trip the fuse and the short slowly ruins your trans control unit (which is more than likely the event that took place on my f450 - smoking leaky heater element when i bought the truck.)

remember the job of the heater is to warm the filter.it won't change the fuel temp in your tank even a degree and doesn't warm the fuel in the ip to help with cold starts.so if you don't live in cold climates where fuel gelling would be an issue.it will serve no purpose and a simple plug will be all that's required.even for those of us who do live in freezing temps,we buy fuel that is refined for our climates so filter plugging is rare.iv only had it happen once with a bad dose of water in the fuel.it never happened again,so i never did bother with wrapping my coolant filter with my fuel filter with heat insulation wrap,which would work good too (so long as the engine didn't stall and came up to temp in the first place though.)

log trucks is plugged.
chip trucks never worked/electrical disconnected.doesn't leak......yet.i should plug it before it does sometime though.
