Replace fuel heater

I need to replace the fuel heater element and need to know the procedure on how to do this. Is the post plastic or metal; is it left or right threaded. Any help would be appreciated - 1997 F250 7.3 PSD

Do you really need the heater, I unplugged mine 9 years ago (after the element detached it self) and it gets down to -25 briefly here in the winter no problems with out it.

the post is lh thread and is plastic. un plug it and forget it IMHO.
