I've run into a bit a quandary that took me completely by surprise I'll admit. I was calling around local parts stores the other day looking for a drop pitman arm, only to quickly discover that while everybody carried a regular pitman arm, a drop arm for a 4"-6" lifted truck was a special order only item. Which, if that were the only issue, wouldn't be a problem. The issue came when I called the final location and the gentleman asked me a question along the lines of the teeth count on the new arm? I...told him I had no idea what he was talking about, haha. Thus, I turn to you fine sirs! What is this teeth business? And how many in fact do I require in my new drop pitman arm so I can get one ordered?
2000 F250 4" lift, 4x4. If that isn't sufficient info to answer the teeth question, just let me know! I will also include a snap shot of my current drop pitman arm, just in case. Thanks!
They are talking about the number of "teeth" on the steering box splines. I believe that this my be a year/model specific issue but not sure, but there is a different spline count between steering boxes. The best ( pain in the butt ) way is to pull your existing arm and count them, carefully, as I don't think that the difference is very much but the wrong one will mess you up.
I believe that the tooth thing comes into play if you have an e99 as I do, all the later ones are the same. I do recall that being answered here before and can maybe be found in a search.
