Highboy pitman arm length

Some may already be aware of this but for those who are not i'll share, the 76-77.5 pitman arm is 2" longer than the 73-75 pitman arm so for those of you with a 73-75 that want to keep the power assist steering and run a moderate lift (4-6 inches) and have already relocated the drag link above the steering arm and still need a few inches to bring the steering geometry back close to stock the 76-77.5 "dropped" pitman arm will do that for you.

The 2" longer highboy pitman arm can be difficult to find if you need one, they were only used for a year and a half and no one in the aftermarket makes one, JBG used to carry the longer arm but no longer does.

I guess that's what happens when you convert every truck you've ever owned to crossover steering lol.

You really need to be a more boisterous advocate for crossover, you don't sing its praises hardly enough.

really? I get on my soap box every chance I get, lol

Matter of fact, I am on it right now in another thread where I saw a push pull drag link that is beyond its usefull limits, and almost made my eyes bleed.
Hopefully we can get that guy going down the right road though.

I seen that thread, that steering set-up did look kinda borderline scary to me.

Do you still have any of these longer arms? Looking for something so I can actually turn left.

And yes, I know this post is from 2010. Figured it’s worth a shot.

Hmm. Why couldn't you simply cut your existing drag link and thread each end and install a coupler to add an extra 2-inches and it would be adjustable.
Threads are standard, and most tie rods have a threaded coupler for toe-in adjustment. Just a thought on how to save a few bucks and add 2-inches.

A longer drag link does not fix the pitman arm problem. A offset drag link is an option but I think they are hard to find also.
The pitman arm needs to be on the same plane as the steering arm. This is critical with old boxs that swing the pitman arm fwd and aft.

I'm kinda interested in this crossover steering thing. Don't really have the budget for it I'm sure, but definitely curious.

I've got an S-shaped link from Trailmaster, and Skyjacker used to have them too. Rugged Trail used to have one when they were in their heyday. Rancho too, but it was for a very low lift (like 2" or less) and only hidden in their catalog where you had to hunt it down in your spare time. Which I seemed to have a lot more of back then!
Also the lift blocks for the king-pin 60's was available. But not sure if I ever saw one for a 44.

Thought I'd cruised all the recent threads, but have not seen a discussion about cross-over steering in awhile. Got links to them? Or are they still on this first page?

Thanks

Paul
