Have 92 f150 6cyl 4x4 w/149k miles and when I was checking/adding fluids to my vehicles I grabbed wrong bottle of walmart fluid (all look same) and accidentally put about a half cup of motor oil in the transmission...It still ran ok on a short test drive but figured i better change out the fluid & filter...So did that and added one gallon of Merc/dex per autozone advice..
Problem is that now when I put the truck in gear it stalls...This was happening before occasionally but only when put in reverse and with a tap on gas pedal kept going,,...Drive 1,2 &3 did not stall...But now putting in ANY gear stalls ...
I'm going out to look at the fluid level now in case to much or little was added, but wanted to put this out there to see if anyone can help...Thanks folks
I doubt your fluid change has anything to do with the stalling if the trans operates normally as far as you can tell. Does the engine run normally other than the stalling? Does it idle smoothly or not? It's more likely you have a vacuum leak with one or more lines or in the vacuum canister(juicecan on the passenger inner fender), or a sensor problem. Pull codes and check for vacuum problems, the juicecan often rusts out on the bottom were you won't see it if you don't look real hard, but if you pull the lines off it after the vehicle has been running it should suck in some air, if not that confirms a vacuum leak somewhere.
