Hi, I've got a '93 F250. Just replaced the driver's side wiper. However, it's not making full contact. As the wiper moves up (from the lower end of the windshield), it makes less and less contact. I originally used Michelin blades (from WalMart) and now using RAIN-X. Size is 18 (or 18-2 for RAIN-x). Never had this problem before. Any ideas?
Thanks, Mrivney
Check to see if the blade is in the end of the arm properly and it isn't binding. Also check to make sure that the wiper arm is pivoting freely.
To check easily, turn the ignition on (don't bother starting the engine) then turn your wipers on. When the wiper is into the sweep where it isn't making contact turn off the ignition. This will stop the wiper arm in place allowing you to exam what is causing the problem.

Thanks Island Time. I checked as you directed. I stopped the wiper at its extreme. The wiper is not contacting the windshield. I must have pulled and bent the wiper arm. I don't remember doing this. Before I do this, any clues on how to do this smoothly and correctly?
First, make sure that the wiper blade assembly isn't fouling in the pivot of the arm. If you remove the blade from the arm does the arm come down into contact with the windshield? (Obviously don't run the wipers like this. Do it when they're stopped.)
Does the wiper arm look the same as the passenger side? If you remove the wiper blade from the driver's side and place it in the passenger side does it work properly? If not, then the wiper blade isn't fitting correctly.
It's a matter of isolating what the problem is. I kind of doubt you bent the wiper arm unless you were playing Magilla Gorilla when you changed it.

Hi Island Time, Thanks for your advice. I took off both blades and the problem side's (the driver's side) arm was not as close to the windshield like the other sides' (the passenger's side) arm. The passenger's side arm was almost touching the windshield. The driver's side arm was about 1/2 inch away from making contact with the windshield.
I must have pulled/bent the arm away. So I just bent it back, gingerly, and now it's working! Just wanted to be careful.
