1969 F100 rear shock relocation
Hi guys, new to the site and new to the U.S., I've just moved here from Australia. I've just bought myself a 69 F100 and need to get the rear end sorted out. Front has a CV in it, the rear has been lowered, new hangers and flipped the axle, all pretty standard.
My problem is the clearance between the coil over shocks (QA1's) and the bottom of the chassis rail. The previous owner has pulled the bottom of the chassis rail down so it no longer hits on the coil overs, my plan is to move the shocks in board a little, and install a new top shock mount, then straighten the chassis rail lip and box it. I've been looking in this forum and others and cannot really see anything like I want to do, Has anyone done something similar to their rear? The axle is out of an Explorer, it's got discs, still the original leaf springs. I'm also interested in notching the rear frame to get a bit more suspension travel.
The shocks are off now, I'm going to pull the tray off on the weekend so access to the area is not a drama, thanks in advance for the replys.
The picture is of the truck stopping at Sacrmento for gas, I drove it home from San Francisco to Illinois, runs nice, needs a bit of suspension work first up, just rebuilt the trans this week.

Welcome to the State and congrats on your sweet ride. That's downright purty.
In terms of an axle flip and rear shocks, I used Fatman Fabrications' kit and it came with shock relocation brackets... they adapt to the stock axle's shock mounts but perhaps the same principle can be applied to an 8.8. I sketched up some dimensioned drawings and provided pics in my build thread:

That looks nice and clean, do you have some better pics of the upper mount you made, also where did you get the lower mount, seems to be a lot around but I'm not sure on the be done to get. Any chance of a closer look at the c section you did, looks very tidy. Are you using standard leaf springs on it?
Thanks again for posting.

Here are my shop copy drawings for the leaf spring saddles and the shock adapter brackets. Fab your own C-notches using 4-inch DOM tubing and 3/16ths plate steel to box your frame....
65-69 Ford 100s use Monroe #34817 shocks (loop mounts on both ends). They are OEM spec'ed as front shocks for 63-87 Chevy PUs.
70-79 F100s use Monroe #34899 shock (stud top mount & loop at the bottom). They are OEM front shocks for 75-91 E100 Econolines).
Saddles... The taller saddle (4-inch side) is installed to the rear:

I don't have a very good pic, sorry. The upper is a stock mount. I just pie cut a little section out so they would fold in. Then welded them back together if that makes sense. The lowers I bought off eBay...
My c notch is just 1/2 a piece of sch 40 4" steel pipe. I'll give u a link to my build. There should be pics of it in first couple pages. http://fordification.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=66753

Does anyone know where you can buy new rear spring hangers for a 69 F100 2WD? I've been looking all through the web, ebay etc, but cannot find anything. They have them for the 73 & up models, but not the 67-72. Main difference is the leaf spring width, on the 73 & up they go to 2.5" wide springs, while the 72 & down are still 2.25" wide.

The Ford part number was C8TZ5775E. But nobody shows them on my parts locators. Guess you'll have to go JY hunting.
Ford used this number to replace the 1964 F100 4X2 ones but I wouldn't use 'em. Try finding:
65/72 F100 4X2 with or without flex-o-matic. The rear hangers are the same.
66/72 F100 4X4.
