Bill,
I tried to figure out how to PM you but couldn't, and you're the man when it comes to this stuff,
I have a plate under the hood, mounted on the passenger side of the firewall, its painted so all I can read are the stamped items, its different then the one on the drivers door frame, can you tell me what it is and means ?
126 F15HNDG2572 17
46 7A 7 33 4DR 05K07
Wow, I just noticed the VIN is one digit different from the door frame tag, heres the door frame info
F15 HN DG2573
133 BR F150 DR4 K 13J
06050 1979 17
now I know what most of this one is, except for 17 , 13J , and the "K" code trans , the book only says ford 3 speed automatic, is it a C6 ?
Bill's PM's are turned off.
The metal tag on the firewall is the "buck" tag. It's used by assembly line workers when they're building the truck.
Some of the codes are obvious but others not so much. I don't know of any reference that breaks down the buck tags.
As for your warranty plate:
F15 HN DG2573
133 BR F150 DR4 K 13J
06050 1979 17
F15=F150 2WD pickup

N=Norfolk Assembly Plant
DG2573=1979 Sequential serial number
WB 133=133" wheelbase
Color BR=(B) Dark Jade Metallic (R) Light Jade
Model F150=F150 2WD pickup 6050 lb GVW
Body DR4=(DR) Ranger XLT, Lariat Jade all Vinyl interior (4) Styleside bed
Trans K= Automatic Trans (C6)
Axle 13J=(13) Ford 9" non-locking, 2.75 ratio, 3,750 lb capacity (J) w/ power steering
GVW 06050= 6,050 lb Gross vehicle weight
1979=1979 model year
DSO 17=Washington District Sales Office
lots of good info, and quick replies, but still my question hasn't been answered, the "warranty tag" I understand, its the "buck tag" I'm trying to have decoded, and yes the buck tag VIN is one digit in sequence different from the warranty tag,

If this is what mikeo0o0o0 says about it, then that is it. Maybe ND will read this and amaze us all with a buck tag break down procedure.
Buck tags were for special order vehicles. At least that was the case on the mustangs. It could be 1 small change that the new owner wanted that would require a buck tag. Marti may be able to help you with that.

That makes sense. My barebones '69 doesn't have one but my chassis/cab '72 does.
ND is not the only guy on this forum with abilities. lol
Dvrs side door tag is the Warranty Plate and the B pillar sticker is the SafetyStandards Certification Label
Fixed it for you.
I hear the sticker is made to fall apart if tampered with.
Hear? From who have you heard and where?
This label has two plies, a clear outer layer and an inner label that has the info printed on it.
The label gets wet and over a period of time...this may cause the outer layer to peel off, taking some/all of the inner layer along with it.
The codes on buck tags are used by assembly line workers to make sure they install the correct parts that match the build sheet. Buck tags cannot be decoded.
Mike has more mechanical knowledge than I have and he knows how to use the parts catalogs.
But the problem is, the C/D version of the 1973/79 truck parts catalog was scanned by hipoparts.com from an early edition, so it has errors and omissions.
And, to make matters worse, in the late 1980's, FoMoCo changed the package quantity of a gazillion parts.
When the IDIOTS did this, they changed the part numbers suffixes, rendering all the original part numbers OBSOLETE!
None of these new numbers are in the truck C/D catalog. I have the 10/88 final edition of this catalog on microfiche, it has most of these replaced part numbers, and it's more accurate than the C/D version.
You are who I "heard" if from, or I at least think I remember reading something YOU posted a long time ago.
I did not miss spell it, I miss spoke it. lol I speak/type incorrect English all the time. I have a hard enough time just typing on this dang keyboard, let alone worrying about getting all the words pronounced correctly.....give me a "brake", oops.....break.
Glad I have "spell" check, but sorry I do not have "speak" check.
Why walk when you drive, why deal with idiots in traffic, when you can just stay home? besides short drives keeps the miles off the 2013 Escape.
Sorry to hear about your situation, hang in there. Any chance you are in this pic? I can imagine you being the guy standing in front of the dvrs side door or be the guy looking in the cab checking some part #'s back in 73. lol
Just a note, when I peeled the cert sticker off the Pumpkin's door jamb, "VOID" appeared across the sticker in several locations.
The clear part peeled off, leaving the paper part glued to the jamb. Where the "VOID" was on the paper, it was also on the clear part.
Should've taken a picture, don't know why I didn't, I've taken pictures of everything else!
