Possible solution to battery drain.

I thought I would post a possible solution to a problem we have been having with our work 2012 and 2013 f150. If the trucks sit for more then a couple days there is a good chance the battery will be dead. We had a ford salesman call us today stating a customer was having this problem and thinks he found the problem. If the headlight switch is left in the auto position the battery drains if the headlights are left in the off position and turned on manually it does not seem to cause a battery drain issue. This is not confirmed as salesman was going to do some more research and see if he could get this checked into by ford research and development. Might be worth trying if you are having this problem.

Thanks for the info

I know several people with these trucks with battery drain issues, I'll pass that along...

I believe I have read that some people were having a battery drain from leaving their keys in the ignition...but that is it.

I know my truck sits for a week or more regularly and I have no drain. I leave my lights in Auto too.

'13 FX4 ... It sits for over a month some times, lights always in Auto and I don't have a low battery problem. It still has the OEM battery.

I'm one of the thousands of people who have batteries draining.
Good try on the headlight switch and the key in the ignition thing. But that isn't it. These two things were ruled out a year ago.
If you "google" instrument lights come on by themselves when truck is parked and/or radio doesn't play after engine off and/or BMS message in display when key off. You will get pointed in the right direction.
Ford is working on a solution that apparently should fix the problem. Basically what is going on are the electronic systems that should be off when the truck is parked and the key is out are randomly powering up by themselves.
The BMS, instrument displays and TPMS all seem to be symptoms of the draining battery issue. The last info I had received from the regional service rep the I've been in contact with said that they have found a problem where some of these systems failed to process a power down command from the ECU.
Sorry about the long post, but if anyone has an 09 or newer F150 with a battery draining issue. Contact Ford directly and get the problem escalated.
Mine takes about 5 days before it is too dead to start.

My headlight switch is always on auto, and my truck sat for a week when I went on vacation, and no dead battery. If this was the case, there would be a lot of dead batteries in our trucks, and I haven't read of this issue being quite that wide spread.

Here is a link that discusses the problem with some detail. I hope this works cuz I'm pasting from another forum.

I know it's not an 09-14 F-150 but my 06 mustang gt does the same thing. I've been turning off the radio before I turn off the car and it seems to help. Otherwise if it sat for a week it was dead. As I type this it is sitting a week as of now I need to start it up tomorrow if possible.

My oldest boy has a 13 Mustang GT. so far his is fine. My other boy drives a 12 F150 with a 5.0 and his is OK as well. Mine is the only F150 in the family doing the dead battery thing. I have and ecoboost with sync.

My mustang was fine for the first 3 years I owned it and then it started out of the blue. I had met guys at car shows who had the issue but I never did. My 2007 F-150 fx4 hasn't had any battery issues at all.
