Don't mess with the air intake. The factory one is a true cold air intake. As for power, that's a tractor engine in a truck. It isn't gonna go fast. Do the basic maintenance and drive the thing knowing it's gonna be reliable.
There are no bolt ons that are worth doing. Gears and bumping the timing a little help. Beyond that, you're looking at big money and custom efi to make power.
Ah okay, but yeah, besides exhaust, I had a feeling there weren't much stuff you can do to these engines. It seems like they're as good as they can be from the factory
1) drop in a K&N, adjust timing and keep the engine maintained.
2) put the highest flowing exhaust you can on it.
3) Drive it like you stole it.
I autocrossed my straight six 95 for a bit. it was a blast. the torquey engine pulled me through the corners. The engine ran beautifully the moment i pulled it out, it just had to make way for something a lot bigger.
The PO hacked the exhaust off right after the cab directly behind the muffler. Sounds awesome. But I would like to get a complete system when I had the dough. There is a small exhaust leak to at the gasket it sounds like
