I was reading somewhere some one made there own cold air out of 2 civic tubes and some couplers? anyone do this themselves? how? how much? was it worth it? do you still pass emissions?
If you have a 4.0 it's not so easy to do, as in 04 they made the maf part of the airbox, you must buy a special intake. It would be possible to make an intake for the 3.0 or 2.3. I just buy my intakes and let the manufacture do the home work. The size of the tube and amount of bends and angle of bends all come into play of making the intake efficent.
Ok, first, lets clarify what a cold air intake is, so that you don't waste your money.
A cold air intake draws cold air from outside the engine compartment into your engine.
Most custom made intakes do not draw cold air from outside the engine compartment. This means the air is less dense, and you also increase the tendency towards detonation. This means less power.
The factory intake is a cold air intake. Many professionally made intake kits come with the shielding to prevent warm air from getting into the inlet.
If you want a cold air intake, do not go the cheap route. Get a professionally made intake from a company that has done the design and research to get it right.
