Hi guys. New to the forums.
I've got the steering issue that everyone has been talking about. Wandering all over the road. Tight steering. Steering won't return to center. Only thing is I've replaced the majority of the steering components. so I just replaced the upper and lower ball joints on both sides. I replaced the steering box with a red head box, replaced all the tie rods with moog tie rods. Installed new bolster steering dampner.I greased all the joints and rods. I used mercon v synthetic trans fluid and i blead the system. When I open the steering res cap I see movement inside which makes me think it has flow but I'm not a pro at this. I've driven around 15 miles on the replacement parts. The steering feels very tight still. And tries to center after making a turn but not like it should. I'm wondering if any of u guys can help me or point me in the right direction. Thx guys
P.s truck is stock with 210k miles
might have air in the power steering system since you replaced the gear box. I had the same symptoms when I did my PS pump. Had to jack the front end up and with the engine off rotate the steering wheel to the right then then all the way to left. Did it about 60+ times. Also pumped break pedal. This gets all of the air out of the gear box, brake booster and lines...
If your truck is 4wd MOST defiantly check your front axle "U" joints. Most likely one or both have a seized cap. See it all the time at the dealer I work for. People do the same list you just did but never check the "U" joints on the front axle shafts. I can almost guarantee that's your concern.
