Sorry, I have searched and searched, but I have not found what to do next.
My F350 has about 150,000 miles on it, and the steering wheel has about one inch of travel in each direction before the wheels begin to turn.
I did a steering gear box on my excursion and it was night and day difference.
So I did try to save some money (Redhead on the excursion) because I am not sure how much longer I am keeping this truck. I went to Oreilly's and bought a rebuilt steering gearbox.
What a wonderful time installing because of some phantom sized power steering line bolts. After the install, my steering was just as bad if not worse.
Checked and found the "tie rod" from the pitman gear arm to be shot. I replace all four. No improvement. I checked the track arm and there is no movement there.
I am stumped, can it be the "new" steering box was just as bad as the original?
Thank you in advance for any advice that can be given.
Yes there is an adjustment, but you need to be very careful in adjusting it to avoid creating other problems. What brand did you get from O'Rielly's? The only aftermarket reman I've had any luck with, other than Redhead, and they have had their issues too, is the Cardone brand, not that they can't have a bad one as well, but they have been consistently better than any other I've seen.
