255-85-16 or 285-75-16

Howdy all Im goin to need new tires before heavy winter starts here in Iowa and I was shopping around for a skinny 33 inch tire for my leveled 95 f150 5.8 4x4. I am going with these wheels.

http://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-85-6885/media/images

And for the tires I'm still undecided... I would like to get a set of maxxis bighorn mts in 255-85-16 but they are harder to find and the other tires I'm looking at are 285-75-16 kenda klever mts. I don't necessarily need a mud terrain tire but I do use the truck as a DD/hunting truck and I like the looks of mud tires on a truck.

I don't really wanna drop a whole lot of money on these preferably under 220/tire...

If yall have any help or advise I'll take it! Thanks,
Tye

I have 265/75/r16 GY Wrangler Dura-Tracs on my F250. They perform pretty well all around, and they still have an aggressive look to them without being an M/T

For looks? 285x75s like these...

But for snow? I'd go with the stock 235s...

Missed your budget price in your original post... I got the 285s in the pic from Discount Tire, zip code 76208 for price comparison. These are their "entry level" tires, meaning cheapo maypop noname import brand. I needed decent tires quick and have other plans in the works for other tires so I wanted to minimize my costs. These were under $700 out the door.

Howdy LeoJr,

Are those 235 85 16 in the attached picture that you are referencing to snow use? I apologize for bringing up such an old thread but I am digging deep to find the right tire for my application here.

Thank You

Matt

Roger that Eagle, thank you for the recommendation. Do you have any idea the tire size height of the picture that I quoted from LeoJr?

Based on his text, and the appearance of the tires, I would say those are 235/85R16 on that truck. Stock size. That is a good size for winter, solid traction in my experience.

Thank you goinboarding, I figured as much. I have a set in the garage right now waiting to go on. Now I just need to find a stock set of rims. The previous owner put some 16.5 inch rims on and finding the stock Alcoas is harder than I thought.
