Does anyone have anything positive or negative to say about Dupli-color in a rattle can? They sell it at AutoZone. I'm looking at painting my interior door panels and the metal under my dashpad.
Like all paint, 95% is in the prep. I've used their color match paint in spray cans on a current and previous truck. Current truck, but not sig truck, I painted an aftermarket grille surround. A previous truck I painted the upper bumper cap. Paint has held up great with no issues, and both are good color matches.
Thanks. I've got a white cab with the classic blue seat and door panels. I'm thinking about painting the panels either tan, dark grey or black, but I've never used Dupli-color before.
For the plastic panels, Id recommend color bond. I painted an a-pillar pod with some and was highly impressed with it. See if I can pull up a link...here you go. Be sure to update and show some pictures of your project.
Sweet. I'll check that out. I'll post pics for sure. It will be a while though. I've got to take care of some rust on the door itself. Figured I might as well do it right since the panel will already be off.
I have used the rattle cans of it more than a few times. For me it has laid down extremely well and was smooth as glass after wet sanding. The clear coat takes quite a while to dry and does darken the color a bit. Give the paint a day or two to dry before any wet sanding or clear coat.
However, I did find that the paint is very soft. I have painted a few gun stocks in it and even the wear of a gun case and shooting chipped and scratched the paint.
I think the long term use is what I'm more worried about. It's not a show truck by any means. It's a truck truck. I drive it to work, for fun and to hunt. I'm just trying to clean it up a little.
Duplicolor woks pretty well. Better spray pattern then most rattle cans. Fine for your intended use, but you can't expect it to hold up as well as 2K paint. You can get 2K in a rattle can, but it is expensive and time sensitive. As mentioned, prep is everything when painting. Clean surface, rough up with red scotchbrite pad, wipe down with degreaser and go for it.
I know what you mean.I love it when it comes out of the can fresh, but with time,,,old cliche you get what you pay for ,,go with the 2k,,its like spraying with the 2 part mix,,thats what Im using to spray my motor dark ford blue,it will look better longer.but I do like dupli-color1606
If it were my truck I would have some single stage paint mixed up. I get it from the local CARQUEST in pints for $10-15 and covers so much more than that cost in a rattle can. You don't need to worry about clear coat and it will be much harder than the duplicolor cans. Over time I think you'll like it better than a rattle can.
I haven't asked them about spray cans, but as far as I know pretty much anything can be put into one. The only thing about spray cans is that they have a rather short shelf life.
OP, Have you shot with HVLP before?
