Hi all. I was searching yesterday and I couldn't find much on this subject.
I'm looking at getting a shell for my 06 F250 Lariat Crew Cab I just recently got. The rear window has the power slider, which subsequently doesn't work. When I get the shell, I'm going to make a carpet kit and stuff for the bed. Most of it is for when we go to drive ins, or for my dogs, etc.
The other thing is, I'll need to remove the shell on rare occasion for dump loads etc. The carpet kit will be made to be removed easily, for this reason.
I'd like to be able to have both windows removed for easy pass through between the cabin and bed when the shell is on, and then put it back when it's off. How difficult is it, to remove that rear window and re-install it on the rare occasions that I need to pull the shell? It's my understanding that they pop out, obviously it's more involved than that, but I'm not sure how it's done and my searching hasn't turned up much on the subject. Maybe I'm just searching under the wrong titles.
Look closely at the window - if it's glued to the face of the rear window opening, then it's not practical to ever remove it (unless broken). If it has a fat rubber gasket around the glass, then it can be removed. You may get tired of the 'rope and soapy water and 2 friends' needed to reinstall the window. I'm sure there's a YouTube video on how to install windows with a rope, if you want an idea of what it involves.
