Hey all, Im thinking about getting rid of my beercan window and getting a regular one. Junkyard has a couple for me to choose from, do I just snag the glass or gaskets too?. I just wondered whats involved since Ive never messed with one before. Any help or suggestions?
Beercan window? You mean the rear slider? If you want to go with a non slider, I'm going to have to ask WHY!? The sliding rear window is the greatest thing since sliced bread!
I quit drinking beer so I dont need it no more, yes Im talking about the slider. Frankly I dont use it and whenever Im trying to get a look at the cutie in my rearview mirror the dang frames get in the way. As long as were on the subject where the heck can I get the chrome insert that goes in the weatherstripping of the window?
I did the complete opposite as you. I got a slider from the junkyard and swapped out my glass with it. It wasn't too difficult; I just slid a screwdriver under the weather stripping and pryed it out very carefully and very slowly. there're probably easier/better ways to do this but i did it this way with a ton of success! i love the beer can window!
Easiest way to install it is to get some wire like speakers wire and shove into the gasket on the new window so it goes all the way around and each end of the wire come to meet...leave pigtails hanging out then have someone outsid pushing against the window and following the wire as you slowly pull it out of the seal....That's how I did it...worked like a charm...and yes, I'd buy a new seal just cause 2 weeks after I did mine and used the original seal.....m buddy's fat head knocked the window back out in one of the corners.I could use an analogy of the looseness of the seal but......heh heh......and if the frames get in the way...just open the dang thing!
