'09 Engine Cover Year Range

I'd like to do a custom radio mount setup for my '09 E250. My thinking is to fabricate the appropriate mounts as part of the top cover of the engine cowl, the dark charcoal piece in the photo below. Since I'd like to retain the original one unmolested to convert it back down the road, I'd like to get a JY replacement to work on. Does anybody what year range would be appropriate to be looking for?

JY = Junk Yard, otherwise known as fine perveyors of used parts.

Good gravy that's one messy radio bay!

For that I'd look at a law enforcement vehicle outfitting site---cops tend to have a lot of gear up front so that's one option.

I'd also look at Crutchfield's site, they might have something useful too.

Yup, and about to get worse when I install the new fire service radio.

With the E series, the only aftermarket products I've been able to find target the ambulance market. They are large, expensive, and way overkill for what I need.

My thoughts were to use the cowl (dog house?) top as a bed for the radio gear. I'd cut away what wasn't needed for structural support and fabricate a mounting platform for the radios. I'd either do it out of wood, or stretched fabric covered in epoxy and fiberglass a la the custom speaker install method.

The good news is that I found out that what I want is a 09-14. The bad news is that the van is too new to be readily available in the junkyards yet. I found a reasonably price new one on FleaBay so bought it. I'll post photos when the project is complete.

Would love to see this IT---I was about to suggest FleaBay as a potential site for decent slightly used interior parts.

The truly crafty and creative person could simply remove the factory console and using the standard mounting scheme fabricate something similar but more in tune with the actual need.

You are correct about the LEO outfitters offerings being a bit huge----to them that space between the seats is meant for filling up.

Too new to have many used parts available. If Ford wouldn't make them so long lived it would be easier. I did find a new one for $125 including shipping which is more than I wanted to spend, but ultimately I think it will be worthwhile. The current setup is driving me nuts.
