Mercury Radio Delete Plate

Can anyone point me to a photo of the dash for a '48 - '50 Mercury M-47? I am trying to determine what the radio delete plate looks like and what the correct color is for this and the speaker grill. I can't seem to find any stock interior photos for these anywhere. Thanks!

As far as I know, the radio delete plate is the same as the FORD version except that it has "MERCURY" written on it instead of "FORD". Original color for the radio delete plate and the radio speaker cover was beige, same as in the Ford.

Both of these are available through any repro parts vendor.

The radio blank out plate is hard to find as they seem to warp and then break. Last real good one I saw was $200.00. They are a silver/grey plastic not beige. The speaker cover is the same silvey/grey colour.

I'm not a Mercury truck expert by any means, but every Ford truck that I've parted out that had either of those pieces, all were the beige color. Maybe Merc trucks were different...???

It looks like Roy and Greg have already answered the detail question. Being plastic, I would venture to guess finding a good one of those would be even harder than the 51-52 style. Fortunately for me, those were done in metal, but still took a year and a half of searching, with the help of some good friends.

That's exactly what I needed to see. Someone told me they were "marbled" but it doesn't look like it from the photo. I've molded stuff for rc airplanes before so I might try to come up with something out of epoxy/fiberglass. Either that, or I'll just have to buy a radio for it! I actually have a really nice plate for a 51/52...too bad they made the '49s out of plastic. Thank you to everyone for the help as always!

Who ever said they were "marbled" didn't lead you astray as the silver/grey does have what could be called a marbled look. I'm going to the Ford and Mercury truck nationals in August and can look for some if you'd like. Let me know.

Might even have a broken one in my spares. I'll take a look this week.

Someone should start reproducing these.

Here's the picture from 49m47's album.

48-50 and 51-52 radio delete plates are different.

Yup, that's the silver/grey marbled look. Then after you find the blankout plate you need to find the speaker grill, the light switch ****, the choke and throttle **** and the ashtray **** which are the same colour plastic. Thanks for the nice photo. It shows the look of the plastic. Very nice blankout plate by the way. No cracks or warping. It would go for $200 easy.

Back in my model car building days, I used to cast parts in resin. An RTV mold would be made and then resin injected. A mold could typically produce 40-50 pieces before it starts to break down. A quick search on the internet would provide you with detailed instruction.

Since you have a good piece, you may want to look into this process. I would if I had it.
