i just put a bearing kit in my rear end and it seems louder just my luck.if anyone knows a good shop in metro detroit area please let me know.i was planning to head back to florida tommrow but i think i better have this checked the noise is in decelerate the back lash was in spec no metal or anything unusual in fluid 235k on the clock
thanks ed
I think you will be ok. Usually with a rebuild there might be a break in period that will be a little bit louder until everything gets seated. Usually the louder noise is when you are under acceleration, more howl. When you let off the fuel there is no stress on the gears.
I have had to put carrier and pinion bearings in, and did not have the correct shims (still don't) trying to build up funding so wife doesn't complain. Rear end howls at different rpm's under power, lots of miles on them, 20 to 30k on them. I so want to put the pinion crush sleeve delete in. By the way I am on the high side of backlash specs. I am quiet under deceleration. Changed gear lube 5000 plus miles ago and no metal.
I had the rear rebuilt, and the instruction sheet they gave me said to make short trips at first (no more than 20 miles at a time) - for about the first 100 miles. After 500 miles, swap out the fluids.
